The MICU has over 60 nurses that staff our unit. Out of those 64 nurses, 16 were able to attend my two provided journal clubs. Because my sleep hygiene project affects the culture of our unit, I felt it important to educate all staff members on providing an optimal environment for our patients to receive rest. I created a power point presentation (see my teaching aides) that I presented in a 10 minute small group style to the nursing staff. In doing so, I was able to ensure that all nursing staff received the information and had the opportunity to answer any questions they may have towards this new quality improvement implementation. Also to note, shortly after formulating the idea for this project of sleep hygiene I accepted a weekend dayshift schedule, a contracted position. Because I felt it was imperative for the project to be successful, I transferred back to the night shift during the roll out phase to help with this change initiative. The project is currently just focused on a sleep time on night shift and I wanted to be accessible on nights to lead our team with this new culture.
